THOUGHTS TO INSPIRE WELL-BEING
There are moments when
we need comforting. We seek encouraging words from ancient voices.
We want to be uplifted with truth and love, passion and inspiration.
We reach for light during times of darkness. So we bathe in a
gentle wash of words that sooth the restless soul.
We look for new paths of Being.
Marcus Aurelius; philosopher, AD 121-180
"Press on steadily, keep to the straight road in your thinking
and doing, and your days will flow on ever smoothly.
Dig within. There lies the well spring of good: Ever dig, and
it will ever flow."
Goethe; writer, soothsayer, philosopher
"If it is the greatest and highest that you seek, the plant
can direct you. Strive to become through your will what, without
will, it is."
Erma Bombeck; "patron saint" and writer for regular
folk
"If I had my life to live over I would have talked less and
listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet
was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the "GOOD" living
room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted
to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble
about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a
warm sunny day just because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before
it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried
about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television
and more while watching life.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending
the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for
the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical,
wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished
every moment realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was
the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later.
Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love yous" ...more
"I'm sorrys" but mostly, given another shot at life,
I would seize every minute.....look at it and really see it ...
live it ... and never give it back."
Rumi; Persian Mystic, poet
"Do not grieve over any joy that has gone forever, for it
will return to you in another form, know that for sure. Deep in
our hearts the Light of Heaven is shining Upon a soundless Sea
without a shore."
Thomas Vaughan; poet
"Within this fantastic circle stands a Lamp, and it typifies
the Light of Nature. This is the Secret Candle of God, which He
hath tinned in the elements: it burns and is not seen, for it
shines in a dark place."
Fujiwara Letaka; 1158-1237, Japan
"To those who long only for cherry blossoms
How I'd like to point out the grass of spring
In the snow of a mountain village."
Pablo Naruda; poet, Chile
"
In you is the illusion of each day.
